We are here to serve the pet community of London!
Hi There! Gone To The Dogs is a full service pet operation co-owned by brother and sister duo, Zach and Amanda Coffey. Both of us were born and raised in Laurel County and grew up on a farm with various animals always around. Dogs were a part of the Coffey family from the start. Our Grandpa Jack raised Fox Hounds as a hobby and as kids we were often around to help care for the hound's every day maintenance but also going fox hunting and handling the dogs, and attending field trials, dog shows and more with Papaw Jack. Our dad was a Laurel County Animal Control Officer for nearly 20 years. Working with dad at the shelter during summers, and accompanying him on late night and weekend calls was a common occurence growing up. As you can imagine, this led to us kids wanting to bring home many rescue dogs over the years. For as long as we can remember our family always had at least one outdoor dog and one indoor dog. In addition to our constant interaction with dogs, growing up on the farm gave us experience with chickens, cows, goats, horses, pigs, peacocks, and even raising baby squirrels and raccoons that had lost their way. To say that Zach and Amanda are animal fanatics would be an understatement. We both grew up and went separate ways, moving away from London for several years. Amanda left first to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Over the last 12 years she has lived in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Missouri. Zach attended EKU and then Spalding University to complete a Master's degree in Nursing and Healthcare Administration. Working in hospitals and healthcare startups the last 7 years, he lived in Louisville and Cincinnati before moving back to London in 2022 and settling down on the family farm. One thing we recognized while living in larger towns and cities was the 5 Star services available for pets. Zach noticed this upon returning to London because of struggling to find dog boarding and daycare options, after being accustomed to using it daily in Cinncinati. Amanda experienced the same thing in places she lived, and also recognized self-serve dog washes as a useful tool that did not exist in London. Amanda developed the idea to open a self-serve dog wash upon returning to London in 2025, but immediately Zach felt doggy daycare and boarding was needed too. From there- Gone to the Dogs was born! Our goal is to re-create the state of the art pet boarding/grooming/daycare facilities we utilized in large cities- right here in London! London pets deserve the best too. We noticed most pet services in the Laurel county area were located in rural spaces and did not offer all the services we were accustomed too. Therefore our main goal was to offer the quality care and services we had experienced in big cities, and to do it all in a convenient location in town- so pet parents could easily access our services!
"You'ns have gone to the dogs!" a common phrase our Granny Pansy used often. The phrase itself dates back to the 1500's and was used to describe food that had spoiled and should be thrown out to the dogs- not eaten by people. Overtime it was used to describe items that had went bad, rotted, or expired-even unrelated to food. Our granny used the expression literally. When we got a new puppy or dogs, or when she would come visit and see our dogs she would smile and shake her head and say "youn's have gone to the dogs!". We found it fitting considering that we have now Gone To the Dogs as our profession.
